Two Faces Of America

I found two interesting articles in Newsweek. The first one is on unemployment in the USA, especially among older white men with college degrees, outstanding CVs and very good white collar job experience. The other is about how America desperately needs (and fails, thanks to draconian immigrations laws) to attract qualified immigrants to do jobs that seem to require a high degree of mathematical knowledge and quantitative skill.

The only conclusion I can draw from these stories is that there is a serious shortage of trained mathematicians and engineers in the US and an over-supply of those good at management, sales, marketing etc., essentially jobs which require good bull-shitting skills and the ability to get others to do some real work.
